Age: 79
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at the Faith Lutheran Church for James Dean Hosler, 79, Junction City. Pastor Patty Brown-Barnett will officiate.

He passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at his home. Burial will follow the service at Highland Cemetery. A visitation will take place 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Faith Lutheran Church 212 N. Eisenhower Junction City, KS. 66441

Mr. Hosler was born April 2, 1934, in Wamego, the son of Jamie Elroy and Bernice Hilda (Johnson) Hosler. His family moved to Junction City and he attended school from Kindergarten through High School in the Junction City School District. Jim was a proud resident of Junction City and had great hope for its future.

Jim played football, track and basketball and attended Washburn University and Central Missouri State on a basketball scholarship. During this time, he took one year off to help build his parents home. He returned to Central Missouri State and graduated with the class of 1960. He served in the United States Army from 1957-1959.

He began his teaching career in 1960 at Westwood Elementary School in Junction City where he taught for 32 years retiring in 1994. Jim earned his Masters Degree in Education from Kansas State University in 1982.

During his years of living in Junction City, he was active on the YMCA Board coaching all sports for 15 years. The YMCA named him the Layman of the year in 1967. He was recognized in the community by receiving the Outstanding Young Educator of the year of 1970 by the Jaycee Club of Junction City.

He worked with the Junior Olympics for many years and was a long time member of the Elks Lodge #1037.

Jim was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council.

He was united in marriage to Janet (Sjogren) Moore on June 5, 1975, in Marquette.

He was preceded in by his parents, two brothers, John and Ted Hosler and one sister, Willa Faye Tolbert.

He is survived by his wife Janet Hosler and two sons, Mark Moore and his wife Susan of Topeka and Eric Moore and his wife Tanya of Vancouver, Wash. He is also survived by is grandchildren Derrick and Jensen Moore of Topeka.

He will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews along with the MacíLaid boys Steve, Phil, Pat and Perry.
