Margaret L. Vaughn

Age: 85
Margaret L. Vaughn, age 85, a longtime Manhattan resident, died July 28, 2013, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

She was born Dec. 6, 1927, in White City, the daughter of Haskel Howard and Christabel Ladora (Stone) Hickey.

Margaret moved to Herington, in 1942, and graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1945.

She was married to John Howard Vaughn on Nov. 29, 1947, in Herington.

Mrs. Vaughn worked at the Herington Army air Base Post Exchange, as an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, as an office clerk for Kirklandís Services and as a clerk for Minionís Dress and Beauty Shop.

She was a member of the Lioness Club and the Herington Country Club and attended the First Christian Church. In 1977 the family moved to Emporia, and Margaret worked for Newman Hospital Child Development Center and as a clerk in local dress shops.

The family moved to Lawrence, in 1992 and then to Manhattan in 1996.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband John on June 7, 2011. She was also preceded in death by four sisters: Jean Johnson, Joan Ruppel, Dolores Vaught and Marilyn Traskowsky.

Survivors include two daughters: Barbara Vaughn and Nancy Dunlap and her husband Ken all of Junction City; one brother, Howard Hickey of Winfield; one sister, Dorothy Kay Smith of Manhattan; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Devin Wendt officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
