No one injured in Tuesday evening blaze

No one was injured Tuesday evening following a blaze that destroyed a Junction City home.

Junction City fire crews were dispatched to the 1200 block of North Clay Street shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, where firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the windows of a single-story structure upon arrival.

All occupants — two adults and five children — had self-evacuated upon arrival.

According to Junction City Fire Chief Kevin Royse, crews initiated an interior attack before switching to defensive operations due to roof structure instability.

Royse said because the fire was "deep-seated and had multiple roof structures," extinguishing the fire was difficult. Junction City Public Works crews assisted the fire department with a backhoe to help extinguish the fire.

No injuries were reported to civilians or fire personnel. The house was determined to be a total loss, with damages exceeding $40,000, according to Royse. The Red Cross will be assisting those who were displaced by the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
